EcoDriver: an EU project to reduce emissions and fuel consumption to which drivers DORNA S.r.l. attended in 2019

The ecoDriver project, the EU-funded research program aimed at supporting drivers of vehicles (cars, buses and trucks) in order to reduce CO2 emissions and fuel consumption in road transport, produced a first series of results from which it emerges that adopting an “economic” driving style allows to achieve a reduction of up to 6% in overall energy consumption. But this is only a positive first step because the reduction target is very ambitious: 20%. Research has also found that the systems put in place to support eco-driving – integrated on the vehicle or on a mobile device, provide real-time alerts based on the characteristics of the vehicle and the route – have a strong positive impact on the speed and times of acceleration and deceleration, keeping the level of attention of the drivers high. The four-year project was one of the elements key to the development of the fleet management platform TomTom Telematics WebFleet. OptiDrive 360 is the first product, a direct result of the research, which has been made available to drivers and encourages more careful driving, respectful of the environment, consumption and road safety.
